About Labradorite and Amber

Labradorite is a Canadian rock, discovered in the 1770’s. This mineral got its name after Labrador in Newfoundland, where it was found. Labradorite has a magnificent look when polished and we’d call it Canadian opal.

Amber is usually referred to as the sun’s energy due to its colours and yellowish translucent look. The classical names for amber are connected to the term ‘elector’ meaning ‘a beaming sun’. According to a myth, when Helios’s (the Sun) son was killed, his mourning sisters turned into poplar trees, and their tears became amber (elektron). I used vintage Baltic amber that my aunt brought me from Kaliningrad many-many years ago.

In this necklace, labradorite stands for clouds and amber for the sunbeams. I decorated this beautiful combination of stones (well, amber technically is not a stone…) with genuine copper findings and finished with a copper clasp.
