Medusa the Gorgon is one of my subjects. Many may remember the myth that Perseus saved the world (or at least its part) by beheading her. But not many remember the story of how Medusa became a monster.
To make it short, she was a beautiful young lady chased by Poseidon who wanted to abduct her. She found a shelter in Athena’s Temple, but he found her there and (naming things straightforwardly) raped her there. Then Athena turned her into this monster as a punishment for desecrating her temple.
Medusa had two children from Poseidon: the flying horse Pegasus and the giant Chrysaor.
I’m not sure who the real monster was (were) in this story.
