This unique necklace Oscine features an ancient Roman artifact: a bronze brooch bird with enamel in the middle dating back to the 4th-5th centuries AD (1500+ years old)..

In Ancient Rome, birds were categorized into three groups: alites, oscines, and sacred. Alites referred to birds of prey like eagles and vultures, while oscines were singing birds, derived from the Latin word “oscen” meaning “a songbird.” Some birds symbolized specific gods and their appearance was considered an omen of either good or evil.

I acquired this bronze artifact from a private collector, carefully restored and cleaned it to preserve its original appearance. A copper wire was added to securely attach it to a metal string. The pendant is complemented by natural light and deep green jade beads interspersed with genuine copper beads, creating a beautiful frame that highlights the color and shape of this Roman historical artifact.
