Collage is my fast way to express my imagination, have fun and show double meaning and, sometimes, sarcasm. Sometimes, I already have a plan for what I’m going to make. If it’s an illustration for a book, or I have a clear vision of a certain idea or message (like it was with Alice D/Zoomed work) I start with the main character and build an atmosphere around it. But when I go with the flow I prepare the background first and go from that: add objects that match the composition and colours. And something creative comes to my mind.
For backgrounds, I’m using a variety of materials, but mostly tissue paper, rice paper and napkins. They absorb glue well and create a perfect adhesion of collaged pictures to a wooden board. Also, they are (semi-)translucent and create interesting colour effects when overlap.
How it starts, you can find in this shirt video.
