Olaf the White handmade viking artifact

I find it really interesting to make jewelry with historical artifacts, which can be a great way to create unique and meaningful pieces that have a story behind them. Some of my pieces are over two thousand years old and can be found in museums.

When working with historical artifacts, it’s very important to handle them with care and respect. Depending on the age and condition of the objects, I may need to take certain precautions to ensure that they are preserved properly. I’m performing gentle cleaning and polishing by myself, trying to show the beauty of the pieces and protect them from future damage.

To create jewelry with historical artifacts, it’s always fun and challenging to find ways to incorporate them into my designs. For example, I might use an Ancient Roman coin or Viking buttons as a pendant. Sometimes, I may also use smaller artifacts, such as beads or charms, to add detail and interest to your designs.

Restoring metal artifacts that are a thousand years old or even older is a delicate and complicated process, and it’s important to take care to preserve their historical value and integrity. The first step in restoring a metal artifact is to clean it. Then, I’m removing corrosion, which buildup on its surface. This will need to be removed carefully using specialized tools or solutions to avoid damaging the artifact.

And then the last thing before starting to design jewelry, preserve the artifacts. Here, I have to say, the goal may not be achievable, depending on the condition and nature of the artifact. I may use special polishing pastes, waxes, varnishes or even glass hot enamel to cover the surface of the artifact.

Once I have your design in mind, you can start assembling my jewelry using traditional jewelry-making techniques, such as wire-wrapping, bead-stringing, or metalworking.
